Our first Cat Show

The first time we attended a cat show was a bewildering experience. We understood absolutely nothing. We had just brought home our first kitten, and the breeder encouraged us to give it a try. This was in May 1988. For us novices, the rules were complicated, but we understood that our kitten had won its category—at least he had beaten his littermate.

After that, we tried out more shows and quickly got the hang of it. Fairly soon, we realized this was an absolutely wonderful world—the sense of community and the lifestyle that come with cat shows. Of course, some success is needed to get hooked, and we certainly did. Now, more than 25 years later, we have participated in several hundred shows and traveled a lot. We’ve also noticed that most of our cats enjoy the shows too.

Cat shows have given us lifelong friends, and as I mentioned, it’s a lifestyle that has enriched our lives—not to mention how important it has been for breeding and contributing to the development of Norwegian Forest Cats.

We strongly encourage others to give cat shows a try.
